Essentially, this design emulated a randomised controlled trial, in which participants on a background therapy with one of the drug classes of interest (GLP-1 receptor agonists or SGLT-2 inhibitors) are randomised to either continue the background drug or add on the other drug of interest (SGLT-2 inhibitor or GLP-1 receptor agonist, respectively)
